Our Staff

DCDC recognizes that providing high quality child care and educational experiences for your children begins with committed, dedicated, knowledgeable staff. Our teaching staff and caregivers begin their positions at DCDC with an involved New Staff Orientation Process that gives them over seven hours of training in areas of health and safety, behavior management, communication skills, developmentally appropriate practice and inclusion. This training, as well as annual staff development training and opportunities for attendance at regional and state conferences give our staff the tools they need to provide your child and family with the best care and education possible.

In DCDC's Early Years Learning Academy Preschool & Child Care, 33% of our teaching staff have degrees from accredited four year colleges or universities in education. An additional 30% have an associate's degree or college credits. (February 2004)

DCDC employs one state certified teacher for each of its preschool classrooms.

To ensure high quality programming to meet the needs of all children, DCDC has a full-time Education Manager, Child Care Coordinator, Dietary Supervisor, and Parent Services Coordinator. The Early Intervention program of DCDC retains educational support teachers, speech and language therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA).

In the state of Pennsylvania, the Department of Public Welfare requires
the following staff to child ratios:

Age Group - Number of Staff to Number of Children
Infants - 1 to 4
Young Toddler - 1 to 5
Older Toddler - 1 to 6
Preschool - 1 to 10
Young School Age - 1 to 12
Older School Age - 1 to 15

Danville Child Development Center (DCDC) strives to maintain a lower staff to child ratio than is required by its licensing agency, the Department of Public Welfare as this promotes more individual attention for each child.
