Teaching Strategies GOLD

Assessment is a key part of high-quality early childhood education. At DCDC, we use Teaching Strategies GOLD—a research-based, observation-driven tool aligned with state early learning standards and designed to track development from birth through third grade.

Our Approach:

  • Teachers observe and assess throughout the year using GOLD, checklists, work samples, and written notes.

  • Assessments cover all key areas: social-emotional, physical, language, literacy, math, science & tech, social studies, and the arts.

  • Parents share insights at enrollment to support personalized assessment.

  • Observations happen naturally during play and classroom activities with trusted teachers.

  • Assessments are reviewed at three checkpoints each year.

Why It Matters:

  • Teachers use this information to tailor learning and identify when additional support may be needed.

  • All staff are trained in appropriate, ethical assessment practices following NAEYC guidelines.

Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ)

DCDC uses the Ages & Stages Questionnaires® to screen and monitor children’s developmental milestones. This trusted tool helps identify strengths and potential delays in key areas like communication, motor skills, problem-solving, and social-emotional development.

Families complete the questionnaires at key intervals, and results are reviewed with teachers. This partnership helps us better support your child’s growth and provide early intervention when needed.
